Exclusive Destinations’ President Lynda Baum sits down for an intimate chat with Brittany Rustman to discuss her return to the company as Vice President of Sales.
We’re excited to have you back at Exclusive Destinations! What have you been up to?
I stayed focused on the International side of the industry with the MICE team at DCI (formerly Mondotels). I worked closely with International Convention Bureaus and NTOs and was able to really expand my knowledge globally in many regions where Exclusive Destinations has current partners. I was fortunate to work in emerging destinations which was quite exciting.
Personally, I have run 4 marathons which has prepared me for anything! My husband Chris and I are constantly chasing after our two kids who were both born during my time at Exclusive Destinations. It’s a daily challenge to be “in-the-moment” and I’m committed to balancing both work and family.
I know you’re passionate about travel, what is your favorite aspect of the MICE industry?
The people. In no other industry do we have the opportunity to work with such interesting and dynamic people. It is a testament to the longevity in the MICE industry, as many of my friends from my early Maritz Travel Director days have become key clients as well as supplier partners. It makes going out on the road for sales calls and industry events quite an adventure.
Exclusive Destinations now represents more than 40 countries worldwide. How do we streamline product information and enhance communication in today’s social media frenzy.
40 countries is an amazing portfolio and we have a lot to say! I cannot wait to dive back in.
I recommend keeping things simple without trying to dominate every aspect of social media. The true essence of each destination will come through with a simple message or statement. It’s best to communicate your message and stick with it. The product information that speaks to me; whether it’s about travel, retail or even news, educates and entertains at the same time.
What are your aspirations and goals at Exclusive Destinations?
I am ready to work with our DMC partners to grow sales and improve the overall client experience. Over the years, I’ve seen buzzwords come and go. It started with “performance improvement” and then became “engagement” and now it’s all about “experience”, which is really at the core of what we do – creating meaningful experiences.
I plan to reinforce the great work Exclusive Destinations has done in the DMC space and nurture the relationships I’ve cultivated in North America. International incentives and meetings are going strong and my goal is to make sure clients think of our DMCs first.
With the ever-changing landscape of the MICE industry, I am also looking forward to enhancing the range of services Exclusive Destinations currently offers.
I found a couple pictures of us from way back when – please share your secrets for staying young!
Laughter, lots of water & daily exercise. Of course, eating in moderation is important but you’ve got to indulge from time to time!
