Last spring I was in Tanzania with Micato Safaris and I couldn’t shake that “fish out of water” sensation that comes from being awestruck by the vastness of the Serengeti, rippling into forever the way it does. As our vehicle made its way toward this clearing we began to make out the scattered pride. The big cats looked profoundly irritated and doleful, as they had evidently just finished eating when this magnificent hippo galumphed onto the scene, a fish out of water if ever I’ve seen one. I instantly felt a connection.
Though my life has never been in danger, I recall a few near death experiences at a business meeting or industry conference. The age old cliché of thinking outside the box seems to be my metaphor for life.
Whether I’m swimming upstream with a new idea or disrupting my day to day routine, I find comfort in the uncomfortable. Though the moment of impact may seem like an eternity, there is no denying the risk/reward ratio is hard at work.
You will find comfort in knowing the plump, half-ton hippo barreled across the road directly behind our vehicle for a graceful but gutsy getaway!
